Sudden loss of sound in Windows 7. "No Audio Output Device is Installed" Help requested.
Howdy, Before I say anything, let it be known this is not a "new to Windows 7 compatibility problem." I have had Windows 7 working for about 2 months now, and then all of the sudden this problem occurred. I can't quite remember exactly what I was doing when it happened, but I was not messing with anything driver related, or even sound related for that matter. I have lost all sound on my desktop computer. It is a custom built computer: Asus P5N-E SLI Motherboard Onboard Audio Windows 7 Professional x86 (Clean install, not upgrade) In the bottom right of the task bar, the volume icon is located, with a red x on it. When I hover on it it says: "No Audio Output Device is Installed." In the device manager, everything located under sounds and audio devices has the yellow "!" sign by it, this includes: High Definition Audio Device Microsoft Trusted Audio Drivers Microsoft Streaming Clock Proxy Microsoft Streaming Quality Manager Proxy Microsoft Streaming Service Proxy Microsoft Streaming Tee/Sink-to-Sink Converter Microsoft Streaming Tee/Sink-to-Sink Converter Under sound in the control panel, it says: "No audio devices are installed" under the playback tab and recording tab, even after enabling the display of disabled and disconnected devices. WHAT I HAVE TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM Running Windows troubleshooter says there is a problem with the High Definition Audio Device, and that reinstalling it might fix the problem. If I apply the fix from the troubleshooter, it fails to install the High Definition Audio Device driver. If I manually uninstall or reinstall from the devices manager, it says it is reinstalling Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, then fails to install as well. Simply disabling and reinabling does not work either. Nor does uninstalling driver, rebooting, and having windows install from there. Installing audio driver from ASUS or Realtek also fails. It seems to have no effect. (Even in compatibility mode) EDIT: I have now checked to make sure HD Audio is enabled in BIOS, it is. I think thats all I have tried, but I'm probably leaving things out. I don't think of myself as a technical noob, but I don't really know what else to do in this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim Hawkins

Go into your bios setup and make sure HD Audio is enabled. Just keep hitting the delete key while booting to get into setup.

Howdy, Thank you very much for your help, but sadly HD Audio was already enabled in the BIOS when I checked it. Thank you though, Tim Hawkins

Here is a link to a program uninstaller that will get rid of everything. http://www.4shared.com/file/k0jqqP9n/iobituninstaller.html Here is a link to the ASUS audio file for your motherboard. http://www.4shared.com/file/ncTZuI2E/Realtek_Audio_V51005904_V60159.html I uploaded these to my file site. Also have you tried re-installing the driver disk that came with your motherboard? You could also try a system restore back to before this happened. You could also run malwarebytes to see if you are infected with malware.
